This latest project is just one more blight upon the Redwood City landscape and if you approve this project, as currently proposed, it will show just how much you DO NOT CARE about Redwood City. Like with all the other 6 story buildings you all have approved in recent years this will become just another eyesore. Once again this is ALL rental housing to which the tenants have no control over the cost of their housing over time nor will they ever be able to participate in 'housing' gains as they might vis a vie an ownership stake as they would be through ownership stakes in condominiums and/or townhouses. The lack of open space in this project is AWLFUL!! If the Covid-19 pandemic has taught us nothing else, it is that open space is very important and the lives in residential areas deeply enhanced when there is substantial open space nearby. What about the impact from increased traffic on surrounding streets, let alone EI Camino? How will the backup of south bound traffic trying to turn east onto Chestnut, Cedar, Beech or Maple be mitigated? It can already be a disaster depending the time of day. Within this South Main project area there should be parklike areas (not prison like enclosures as shown in the 2 six story buildings) that both residents and potential workers alike can use. Lastly, once again a developer is pushing the buildings along the EI Camino right up to the sidewalk so that EI Camino is now a tunnel from about Jefferson to Cedar. Why would RWC ever give any of our city owned resources to a developer or give concessions such as:: • The purchase of city -owned land that currently houses an affordable housing complex. • The abandonment of a stretch of Shasta St. • The destruction of a historic resource. • The adoption of a Statement of Overriding Considerations that will disregard certain impacts that cannot be mitigated. To do the above is pure incompetence. Frankly, your decisions past decisions regarding 'development of Redwood City' are nothing but an eyesore save Courthouse Square. Make a better decision this time and just say NO and tell the developer to go back to the drawing board with a much more imaginative and innovative plan that offers much more to the citizens that live here.
