Of these 39 affordable apartments, HIP Housing has
proposed that eight of the apartments shall be subject to a preference for Extremely Low -Income people with
developmental disabilities who would receive coordinated services funded by the Golden Gate Regional Center,
including housing support services provided by Housing Choices.
Housing Choices has a 23 -year track record of supporting developers of affordable housing, like HIP Housing, to
include people with developmental disabilities in their affordable housing plans. Our services include help with the
housing application and move -in process, and ongoing support after move -in to maintain housing stability. We
currently support inclusion of people with developmental disabilities at 18 different affordable housing properties
across Silicon Valley, with 10 more inclusive housing commitments in the process of land use planning, financing,
and construction.
The affordable housing apartments proposed at 1304 EI Camino Real are urgently needed in Redwood City,
particularly by the City's residents with developmental disabilities. Redwood City is home to 680 people with
intellectual and developmental disabilities who receive services from the Golden Gate Regional Center. 416 of
these individuals are adults with developmental disabilities, most of whom are living at home with aging parents.
Many Redwood City adults with developmental disabilities remain at home with aging parents only because of the
inability to secure an affordable apartment in their home community where they grew up and have formal and
informal support networks. The project proposed at 1304 EI Camino Real would help address this need.
Furthermore, the reduced parking proposed for the affordable housing works well with the transit use of people
with developmental disabilities who rarely own a car or have a drivers' license.
Thank you for your consideration.
S' cerely,
Ja ett E.
