6.A. - Page 87 of 251 <br />Appendix <br />B.3 Trends in National and State Emissions <br />National Emissions <br />According to the U.S. EPA, gross total U.S. GHG emissions in 2017 were 6,456.7 million metric tons (MMT) of CO2 <br />equivalent (CO2e), representing a 12 percent decrease below 2005 levels.63 Emissions have also decreased 4.5 <br />percent since 2014, largely driven by transitioning power plants from using coal to natural gas, as well as warmer <br />winter conditions.
