From: Nika Cassaro
To: GRP -City Council
Subject: November 9 City Council Meeting Agenda Item #8
Date: Tuesday, November 10, 2020 12:24:36 AM
Hello Redwood City Council,
My name is Nika Cassaro and I have been a resident of Redwood City since 2015.
I wanted to add a comment to the public discussion of Agenda Item #8, regarding the Greystar
development downtown:
The childcare facilities and infrastructure improvements are great, and it's good to see that
Greystar has responded to community requests by adding more housing and public spaces, but
as many people at the meeting tonight said, it seems like there is still an imbalance of housing
and office space. According to Greystar's own representative this development will add
enough office space for over 2000 employees, but only enough housing to
accommodate roughly 1500 new residents, creating a net loss of housing for roughly 500
people. And that's assuming that all of that office space even gets filled. In a post-COVID
world, it's likely that many white-collar jobs will permanently go remote and some of this
office space will sit empty. Please negotiate with Greystar to replace some of the 530,000
square feet of office space with more housing units of various sizes and more affordable units
as well! There can and SHOULD be even more VLI, and ELI units!
Thank you for your time.
