Hold a public hearing; <br />2. Adopt a resolution adopting relocation assistance fees for the City's Housing Division; and <br />3. By motion, direct staff to administratively incorporate the proposed fees into the City's Master Fee <br />Schedule. <br />STRATEGIC PLAN GUIDING PRINCIPLE <br />Housing <br />BACKGROUND <br />On July 23 2018, the City Council adopted the Relocation Assistance Ordinance ("Ordinance"), recognizing <br />that finding replacement housing requires a significant amount of time and resources and that <br />experiencing an unanticipated move may be particularly difficult for extremely low, very low, and low- <br />income households. On January 1, 2019, the Ordinance went into effect, and is codified at City Code <br />Chapter 42. The Ordinance requires landlords to provide relocation assistance to lower income tenants <br />(earning 80% or less of the Area Median Income) who are displaced. Displacement under the City's <br />Ordinance means the vacating of one or more rental units, within a property of five or more units, due to <br />the landlord undertaking one of the following actions: <br />• Withdrawing all rental housing units from rental housing market; <br />• Demolishing or otherwise removing a rental housing unit from rental housing use after having <br />obtained all proper permits from the City; <br />• Remodeling, renovating or rehabilitating the unit(s) resulting in permanent displacement of the <br />tenants; <br />Page 1 of 4 <br />City of Redwood City 1017 Middlefield Road, Redwood City, CA. 94063 Tel: 650-780-7000 www.redwoodcity.ore <br />617 <br />
