ADMINISTRATIVE POLICY <br />EXHIBIT B <br />Redwood <br />California <br />City <br />�\�(y/Founde�fdyl6G/I <br />NUMBER: XX <br />EFFECTIVE: XX XX, 2020 <br />SUBJECT: ENVIRONMENTALLY PREFERRED PURCHASING POLICY <br />1.0 STATEMENT OF POLICY <br />It is the policy of the City of Redwood City to: <br />• Institute practices that reduce waste through efficient operational procedures, <br />environmentally friendly procurement, reuse, and recycling, <br />• Purchase products that minimize environmental impacts, toxics, pollution, and <br />hazards to employee and community safety; <br />• Purchase products that reduce greenhouse gas emissions in their production, <br />shipping, use and disposal; and <br />• Purchase products that include recycled content, are durable and long-lasting, <br />conserve energy and water, use agricultural fibers and residues, use unbleached <br />or chlorine free manufacturing processes, are lead-free and mercury -free, and use <br />wood from sustainably harvested forests. <br />This policy is subject to the City's Purchasing Ordinance and Purchasing Guidelines, as they <br />may be amended from time to time. <br />2.0 BACKGROUND <br />The City of Redwood City recognizes the opportunity to serve as a community model for <br />environmental leadership by incorporating environmental considerations into public <br />procurement, reducing its burden on the local and global environment, removing <br />unnecessary hazards from its operations, protecting public health, reducing costs and <br />liabilities, and helping develop markets for environmentally responsible products. Further, <br />the Environmentally Preferred Purchasing Policy aligns with the City's Climate Action Plan <br />waste measures, Goal NR -4 in the Natural Resources Element of the Redwood City General <br />Plan, and Goals PS -4 and PS -5 of the Public Safety Element of the Redwood City General <br />Plan. It aligns with and implements Policies PS -4.2 and PS -5.3 of the Public Safety Element <br />and implements Programs NR -14 and NR -15 of the Natural Resources Element. <br />1of17 1 1age <br />
