emissions targets. The Fleet Division's goal is to lead by example, cutting emissions by <br />reducing gasoline and diesel usage in fleet vehicles and equipment. The primarily path to <br />achieving these greenhouse gas reductions is through a policy of municipal fleet <br />electrification, replacing gas- and diesel -powered vehicles and equipment with electric <br />alternatives, with more fuel efficient and lower emission vehicles when suitable electric <br />alternatives are not available, or retiring vehicles and equipment and not replacing them <br />when operations allow. The priorities of the Sustainable Fleet Policy are outlined below. <br />5.0.1 Solicit and purchase the most fuel-efficient vehicles with the lowest emissions <br />whenever possible. <br />5.0.2 Reduce vehicle size and weight whenever possible. <br />5.0.3 Reduce the number of vehicles by right -sizing the fleet whenever possible. <br />5.0.4 Replace diesel equipment with electric, hybrid, or gas -powered equipment <br />whenever possible. <br />5.0.5 Transition to renewable diesel when it becomes competitively offered. <br />5.0.6 Provide education and outreach programs to all employees who use City <br />vehicles. <br />5.0.7 Participate in regional efforts to procure electric vehicles, equipment, and <br />infrastructure through collaborative initiatives. <br />5.0.8 Reduce waste and hazardous material waste by employing environmentally <br />friendly, recycled -content, and biodegradable products whenever possible. <br />6.0 ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES <br />It is the responsibility of all City departments to promote the development and use of <br />environmentally friendly products and services through the following activities: <br />6.0.1 Reviewing contracts, bids and specifications for goods and services to <br />ensure that, whenever possible and economical, they are amended to <br />provide for the expanded use of products and services that contain the <br />maximum level of post -consumer reusable or recyclable waste / or recyclable <br />content, without significantly affecting the intended use of the product or <br />service. <br />6.0.2 Identifying new environmentally friendly products and services as well as <br />improvements/changes in industry standards that may impact the <br />environment. <br />8of17 1 1age <br />
