Strategies and Actions <br />Redwood City General Plan Goal (BE -45): Minimize the volume of solid waste that enters regional landfills. <br />Solid Waste Diversion Target <br />Municipal Zero Establish a policy to achieve 95% waste diversion rate in city <br />WM.1 Waste Policy operations. Provide appropriate bins and signage, organics recycling 20 <br />and education to public employees. <br />Increase Waste Achieve 90% waste diversion rate through promotion of traditional and <br />WC.1 Diversion Rate new recycling and organics recycling programs, local enforcement of 631 <br />requirements, and sustainable vendors policy for public events. <br />Be a Better Consumer <br />Did you know that the average American generates about 4.4 lbs of trash each day? To reduce the amount of trash <br />you generate, follow these few easy steps. Use reusable coffee mugs and shopping bags. If you forget your mug or <br />bag at the store, buy a new reusable one and keep the extra one in your purse or car for use the next time you are out. <br />Alternatively, set aside $1 each time you forget your mug or bag; depending on your memory, you will have enough <br />funds to purchase a reusable item sooner or later. Also, reuse as many things as possible and recycle at home, work, <br />and school.
