6.C. - Page 1 of 7 <br />/<�ik <br />Redwood <br />CitylCallifornia <br />Faunded 1867 <br />Ago/ <br />DATE: December 7, 2020 <br />SUBJECT <br />STAFF REPORT <br />To the Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From the City Manager <br />Installation of new Vice Mayor for a partial term in accordance with City Council Policy 2019-02 - Selection <br />of Mayor and Vice Mayor <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />In accordance with City Council Policy 2019-02 - Selection of Mayor and Vice Mayor, install <br />Councilmember Giselle Hale as the new Vice Mayor for the partial term of outgoing Vice Mayor Shelly <br />Masur based on seniority on the City Council as described by the policy. <br />STRATEGIC PLAN GUIDING PRINCIPLE <br />Excellence in Government Operations <br />BACKGROUND <br />In September 2019, the City Council adopted the Selection of Mayor and Vice Mayor policy (Attachment <br />A), which establishes the procedure for selecting the Mayor and Vice Mayor for the City of Redwood City. <br />The procedure is based on seniority of City Council service. At the December 6, 2019 City Council meeting, <br />per the policy, the City Council installed then -Vice Mayor Diane Howard as the new Mayor and then- <br />Councilmember Shelly Masur as Vice Mayor each for two-year terms ending in 2021. <br />Vice Mayor Masur's term on the City Council has expired and she will vacate her seat on December 7, <br />2020 after serving only one year as Vice Mayor.
