• <br />Proclamation <br />Honoring Council Member Ian Bain <br />WHEREAS, Council Member Bain was first appointed to the Redwood City City Council in 1998, and <br />elected by the voters in 2003 after which he served four more consecutive terms; and <br />WHEREAS, prior to serving on the Council, Council Member Bain served as chair of Redwood City's <br />Housing and Human Concerns Committee, as well as several non-profit boards; and <br />WHEREAS, Council Member Bain's interest in government comes from his parents, who instilled in <br />him the beliefthat we should all use our gifts to help others, and he has contributed to his community <br />in many ways over the years; and <br />WHEREAS, since being elected to the Council, Council Member Bain has been the leading voice for <br />government transparency, a strong supporter of small businesses and a champion for the average <br />citizen; and <br />WHEREAS, Council Member Bain championed the creation of a vibrant downtown through the <br />Downtown Precise Plan (DTPP) adoption and the development of Courthouse Square, and led the <br />revitalization of the neighborhood associations, Middlefield Road undergrounding project and sales <br />tax revenue measure; and <br />WHEREAS, Council Member Bain also played an integral role in community recreation projects such <br />as the Main Street Dog Agility Park and Magical Bridge Playground, and was very active in supporting <br />the Holiday Toy and Book Drive; and <br />WHEREAS, while Mayor, Council Member Bain assessed the skills and interests of his Council <br />colleagues in supporting their subcommittee assignments and in encouraging their advocacy in the <br />community; and <br />WHEREAS, Council Member Bain has an uncanny ability to summarize divergent points of view at <br />the dais in order to enable Council to bring resolution to controversial issues; and <br />WHEREAS, Council Member Bain has a passion for government innovation and worked during his <br />time as Mayor on policies that promote government efficiency and transparency; and <br />WHEREAS, Council Member Bain's contributions to the Redwood City community are paramount to <br />its success, and his accomplishments while serving on the City Council will continue to benefit our <br />residents for decades to come. <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT 1, DIANE HOWARD, MAYOR OF REDWOOD <br />CITY, on behalf of the City Council and the people of Redwood City, do hereby honor and thank <br />Council Member Ian Bain for his many successful years ofservices, hispassion and hard work to serve <br />the Redwood City community, and wish him the best in his future endeavors. <br />Date: December 7, 2020 <br />40 Dia,.ne Howard <br />5 , Mayor <br />Sbsur r <br />Afr i grdrre, nncil Me -tuber <br />anel Bor until a ber <br />Cimlle Hale, Comt Member <br />Diana Reddy, Councit Mem r <br />:l a :a VA 11 ■ :f! <br />Redwood <br />CityI California <br />Founded 1867 <br />
