Exercise caution when
opening attachments or clicking links, especially from unknown senders.
Honorable Mayor Howard, Vice Mayor Masur and members of the City
Council,
My name is Kaia Eakin and I am speaking this evening on behalf of the San
Mateo County Historical Association who wishes to thank Ian Bain and Janet
Borgens for their leadership.
Mr. Bain, your many acts in support of the Historical Association are too
numerous to list, but we will highlight two that are emblematic of the
breadth of your talent.
First the Historical Association appreciates the oil painting of Judge Buck
that you created and now hangs in Courtroom A. Many, if not most, of your
constituents may not know about your artistic gifts, but we thank you.
Second, when you were mayor, you created a task force to work with the
community of former Ampex employees, Stanford University, and Redwood
City residents. At that time, there was a controversy regarding Stanford's
use of the former Ampex site. You appointed Janet Borgens to spearhead
outreach to these diverse communities.
Councilmember Borgens brought her formidable skills to this task and by
sheer force of her personality was able to forge an enduring partnership
between the citizens of Redwood City, the Ampex Community and Stanford.
Mr. Bain and Ms. Borgens, thanks to your initiative the San Mateo County
History Museum will feature interactive exhibits in its Gallery of Innovation
which will demonstrate how Ampex revolutionized recording in American
broadcasting, film audio production, and the recorded music industry,
among many other "firsts." This exhibit will show the evolution of visual and
sound technology and help Redwood City claim its rightful place as the
center of innovation in the mid -twentieth century.
Mr. Bain and Ms. Borgens, we greatly appreciate your leadership and wish
you every success in your next endeavors.
Sincerely,
Kaia Eakin
