6.E. - Page 87 of 272
4. Method of Replacing Existing Decommissioned Streetline Monitoring System
The decommissioned Streetline monitoring system relied on a small number of ground sensors monitoring individual
spaces and a prediction algorithm to use the ground sensor occupancy as a proxy for the occupancy of the broader street.
With this approach, only heatmapping is possible - a driver can never be guided directly to an open space, and so there is
limited value to the driver.
Cleverciti's approach is different: create a complete data layer covering every relevant on -street space in the City by
monitoring each space in real-time with ClevercitiSensors. Due to the nature of the sensor (overhead optical sensing), a
single Cleve rcitiSensor can cover many parking spaces. The Cleve rcitiSensor is described in detail in the Executive
Summary and section 1. Proposed Technology to Obtain Occupancy Data for Surface Lots and Public Garages.
Leading cities like Dubai, UAE and Cologne, Germany have deployed Cleverciti's technology in on -street environments with
great success. See references for further information.
As Add -Alternate #1, we have proposed installing ClevercitiSensors to cover all of the spaces that have been indicatedb
the City as included in on -street detection. In total, we have identified 1,279 parking spaces which will be monitored byi
ClevercitiSensors.
As an option to Add -Alternate #1, we have proposed installing EClevercitiCirc36O guidance signs, which will provide
guidance to drivers at most intersections throughout the City to reach the nearest arkin , whether it is on -street or off-
street. As described in the Executive Summary, by providing guidance can use, the City can maximize
the reduction in traffic congestion, reduce emissions, and bring additional revenue to local businesses by turning parking
search time into local shopping time. Without this guidance only a portion of drivers will be able to take advantage of the
on -street parking data (e.g. via the MyRWC app or the City website).
With complete coverage of guidance and occupancy detection, drivers approaching an intersection are presented with a
small Circ36O sign, neatly wrapped around an existing lamppost or signpost (the sign is described in detail in section 1.
Proposed Technology to Obtain Occupancy Data for Surface Lots and Public Garages above). On the sign, the driver is
shown which way to turn to have the best possibility of finding a parking space, together with the number of spaces that
can be found in that direction. By following these signs, a driver is optimally guided to a parking space. Also, because the
on -street and off-street guidance is driven by the same platform, available off-street parking can be included in the on -
street guidance ensuring a seamless user experience.
Streetline provided analysis reporting that the City referenced in its RFP documents. Cleverciti captures the same
occupancy data points as Streetline, but with substantially more accuracy and granularity as a result of having full coverage
of all spaces so that no prediction is required. Cleverciti historical trends are available in the ClevercitiCockpit. While they
are presented differently from Streetline, the same business questions can be answered with Cleverciti's built-in reporting
and analysis tools. Redwood City staff will be thoroughly trained on use of the ClevercitiCockpit.
Redwoo
City
Copyright 02020 Cleverciti Systems GmbH.
