<br />6.2A <br />Page 1 <br /> <br />REPORT <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />.' . . <br />. .' ., - - '. <br />'..T o. the Hpnorable-Mayorand City Council <br />ff~mt~CtiM~Ul.~ef <br /> <br /> <br />Aprif 14, 2008 <br /> <br />SUBJECT <br />Final Acceptance - 2007 Water Tank Exterior Recoating Project <br /> <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />Accept, by motion, the 2007 Water Tank Exterior Recoating Project and authorize the <br />release of bonds and ret~ntion according to City procedures. <br /> <br />BACKGROUND <br />The integrity of the painted coating on water tanks is periodically inspected and <br />maintained since the coating provides protection from rust damage. Earlier inspection <br />revealed that the fmish coat of the Easter Bowl tank was compromised by excessive <br />peeling which could impact the integrity of the tank. As well, spot repairs were needed <br />to other tanks where the existtng coattng had become chipped from projecttles. <br /> <br />On July 9, 2007, the City Council awarded the construction contract for the 2007 Water <br />Tank Exterior Recoating Project to Redwood Painting of Pittsburgh, CA. The project <br />consisted of removal of the entire exterior coating and recoating the Easter Bowl <br />storage tank near California Way and Summit Way. Spot repairs to exterior tank walls, <br />roofs, and inlet/outlet piping were performed on six other water tanks. <br />1. Wilmington - Near Wilmington Way <br />2. Glenloch - Near Glenloch Way and Hillcrest Way <br />3. CambrIdge #1 - Near Cambridge Way and Harte Drive <br />4. Cambridge #2 - Near Cambridge Way and Harte Drive <br />5. Easter Cross - Near California Way and Summit Way <br />6. Peninsula Tank- Near Redwood Shores Parkway and ShelL Parkway <br /> <br />The project was awarded for a low base bid of $271,100.00. Two (2} change orders <br />totaling $19,400.00 (7% of the original contract amount) were issued for additional <br />recoating work to address aesthetic concerns resutting from spot repairs to the Gtenoch <br />and Easter Cross tanks. The final project cost is $290,500.00. The project has been <br />successfully completed in accordance with the plans and specifications. <br /> <br />AL TERNA TIVES <br />Council may choose not to accept the project which would be contrary to prior Council <br />action. <br /> <br />FISCAL IMPACT <br />Sufficient funds have been approved and appropriated by the City Council from the <br />Water Fund Capital Projects, 2007 Water Tank Recoating Project. <br />
