•CHAMBER
REDWOOD CITY
SAN MATEO COUNTY
January 11, 2021
Mayor Diane Howard
City of Redwood City
1017 Middlefield Road
Redwood City, CA 94063
Re: Agenda Item 8.13. Ferry Financial Feasibility Study and Economic Impact Analysis
Dear Mayor Howard and Members of the City Council,
The Redwood City/San Mateo County Chamber enthusiastically supports Council's acceptance of the
Redwood City Ferry Feasibility Study and Cost -Benefit & Economic Analyses. Your formal
acceptance of the study will build on the momentum created in 2020 by the memorandum of
understanding on Redwood City ferry service among the City of Redwood City, the Port of Redwood
City and the Water Emergency Transit Authority.
We also encourage you to direct City staff to initiate a business plan for the project. We know that the
Port is ready to work closely with the City on this next phase, and we understand that the City and
community will have ample opportunity to provide input on the project during future environmental
review and implementation.
The Chamber has advocated for water transit for two decades. Ferry service at the Port of Redwood
City will provide a critical connection between the Peninsula, San Francisco and the East Bay. We
have consistently heard from employers of all sizes that they enthusiastically support ferry service as
a solution to traffic congestion. Your acceptance of the feasibility study and economic analysis is a
key step to move the project forward.
Thank you for your leadership in supporting a vision that includes water transi to meet our local and
regional transportation needs.
Sincerely,
Amy N. Buckmaster
President & CEO
CC: Melissa Stevenson Diaz, City of Redwood City
Kristine Zortman, Port of Redwood City
Seamus Murphy, Water Emergency Transportation Authority
Jim Hartnett, San Mateo County Transit District
April Chan, San Mateo County Transportation Authority
