flipped.
These catamaran ferry boats produce VERY large and disruptive wakes for small boats, for example a
photo can be seen here - https://bit.ly/3fg5krB. I wrote these comments - https://bit.ly/3d2QfdN -
prior to a public meeting at the Port of RWC prior to their resuming service, and this set of
comments - https://bit.ly/2UN8cgE - prior to another community meeting held regarding port safety
in August 2018. As you see this has been an ongoing issue.
On behalf of BIAC's members and the many recreational users of Redwood Creek, I ask that you
take specific and directed action to direct staff to build safety mitigation measures into the
Business Plan and fund their implementation to ensure the future safety of recreational small
boats in the Redwood Creek area. Because of the history of inconsistent adherence to "voluntary'
and/or unspecific measures to mitigate hazard, it is our strong recommendation that a NO WAKE
SPEED LIMIT (perhaps 5 mph) be adopted within Redwood Creek channel from channel marker 5/6
inward to avoid the hazard these high wake boats present to small boaters. I strongly urge you to
direct funding to the port, police department and/or other staff to implement such a speed limit
prior to ferry service resuming or there will likely be significant safety issues arising again.
Thank you for your attention and consideration.
Sincerely,
Jon Carlson
President, Bair Island Aquatic Center
presidentCcDgobair.org
