8.A. - Page 2 of 36
Shortly after the February 2020 meeting, the State of California and San Mateo County issued the shelter
in place public health orders. The Covid-19 pandemic and associated shutdown forced changes to the
community engagement approach and delayed the overall schedule for the Transit District. The
pandemic drastically reduced transit ridership, creating financial impacts to all forms of transit, specifically
Caltrain. Staff delayed community outreach work through early summer in order to focus attention on
critical pandemic -related information and services. Summer and fall 2020 were then devoted to
restructured public outreach efforts as well as on Caltrain efforts for a new funding mechanism, Measure
RR, which was approved by voters in November 2020.
With the passing of Measure RR, Caltrain now has a stable source of funding for operations. Work
on system electrification is continuing with electrified service scheduled to start in 2022. Transit District
public outreach is now also in process and initial feedback is discussed further in this report.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The Transit District is 17.5 acres with over 2,200 linear feet along the Caltrain tracks. It is made up of the
Sequoia Station property of 12 acres, a bus station of 2.5 acres, the A-1 Party Rental site of 0.4 acres, and
the Perry parcel (surface parking lot) of 2.5 acres, which is reserved for future station platforms and
amenities (see Figure 1). There are three key components for the Transit District - station redesign, grade
separations, and land development.
Figure 1— Proposed Map of Transit District
Development Parcels
 4:
............................................. sr
\(
Perry Parcel
Ownership: Peninsula Corridor Joint Powers Board (JPB)
(Caltrain)
Site Area: 2.5±Acres
rLLLsr
...............................................
.........
....:...............................
Transit Center d aa Awa
Ownership: Peninsula Corridor)PB (Caltrain),
TER Terry L Family Trust (A -L Party Rental)
Site Area: 3±Acres .iLa
Sequoia Station Shopping Center
Ownership: REGB Sequoia Station (Regency Centers
Station Redesign
City of Redwood City 1017 Middlefield Road, Redwood City, CA. 94063 Tel: 650-780-7000 www.redwoodcity.org
194
Safeway, Inc.
San Mateo Co Transit Dist (SamTrans)
'.
