Exercise caution when
opening attachments or clicking links, especially from unknown senders.
Honorable Mayor Howard, Vice Mayor Hale and Members of the City Council,
My name is Kaia Eakin and I am a resident of Redwood City.
Thank you for your care and consideration in evaluating the proposal for the new Sequoia Station
project.
It is very exciting to have a large project like this near transit proposed for our city. As our careful
planning over many years envisions, dense development near transit, transit oriented
development, is the best way to develop and this site right now can definitely accommodate more
density. I applaud the concept of building up and of placing parking partially underground and
stacking, rather than the current vast array of a parking lot. This proposal has a lot of nice aspects
and in a lot of ways is an improvement to the current use.
However, I believe, there needs to be more housing and less office in the proposal. As residents
and as a community, we have the power to make our downtown be what is best for all of us. It is
best to have a lot more housing and a lot less office. Is this expensive? Yes. Is housing more
expensive than office? Yes. But, just because it is expensive for the developer to provide and for
the city to support (with a higher need for infrastructure, schools, fire, police, etc) doesn't mean it
shouldn't happen. We have a housing crisis and a climate crisis. We do not have an office crisis.
So, to fix the housing crisis and climate crisis, we as a community need to be willing to ask our
developers and city and ourselves to do more, not just to settle for what's easy. We need to push
this project to be better. Better means more housing and less office.
Thank you for your consideration and for your service.
Respectfully submitted,
Kaia Eakin
Redwood City Resident
