From: _
To: GRP -City Council
Subject: Proposed Sequoia Station Has too Much Office Space and is too tall!
Date: Saturday, January 23, 2021 10:35:03 PM
CAUTION: This email originated from outside your organization. Exercise caution when opening attachments or
clicking links, especially from unknown senders.
Dear Mayor Howard and City Council Members,
My husband and I as well as a number of neighbors around Redwood City are very concerned around the proposed
project build at Sequoia Station. For the past 15 years, our city has built a vast amount of office space and this has
not helped with our housing shortage, not to mention affordable housing shortage as few if any of the affordable
housing units are added in these mixed use builds.
Add to that the announcement that Oracle who occupies vast amount of tall office buildings in Redwood Shores
recently announcing plans to move its headquarters to Texas, and that other companies are pondering the idea of
moving out of California, there very soon could be a glut of office space in Redwood City. If this should happen the
revenue decline will be significant.
If we focus instead on housing (not office space), since the imbalance between office space and housing is so great,
adding more housing should help bridge the divide.
Along with housing we believe the proposed build is much too tall. There is already a parking shortage in Redwood
City as well, and if we continue to build vast amounts of office space, the parking problem will be compounded
since not everyone will be able to commute via Caltrain. Nor if folks live at the New Sequoia site would it be
reasonable got expect that they won't also need the use of a car. And expanding the tracks to allow for more trains
is going to create need for parking. This build will exacerbate the issue.
From a standpoint of residents of our community many of us also didn't choose to live in Redwood City to see a
large number of 8-12 story buildings go in. It has been clearly studied and proven that for people mental health's
greenery and open space is also needed. The new proposed build provides for neither of this.
We hope you will consider our concerns in with regards to this proposed build.
Warmly,
Janet, Rob and Neighbors around Redwood City
