I can't
wait to share it with you.
But in reviewing Monday's agenda, I was struck by number 8.a.
As a 25 -year Redwood Citian, I am very interested in the Transit District discussion but was shocked to see the staff
report recommend the Auto Zone project be part of the Transit District initiative as opposed to the Gatekeeper
process. As I understand it, this is because it includes the A-1 Party Rental site, which is designated to be the home
of 60 new affordable housing units.
I know that the work I do in affordable housing doesn't qualify me as a "big developer." I also know there are many
nuances to any project, but regardless, there are some things I know for sure.
One critical thing is that the change staff is suggesting, would not only delay the whole project significantly but also
puts an otherwise well thought-out and generally well -liked project into a potentially contentious path.
Also, when it comes to affordable housing finance which the Auto Zone project will be incorporating, this move
would be the kiss of death.
Orchestrating sellers involves strict adherence to timelines as does applying for State financing. The delay caused to
the Auto Zone project being moved to the Transit District will mean the project goes away entirely.
I feel losing the 60 -units of affordable housing, the Teen Center and the historically relevant Chrysanthemum Plaza
would be a tragedy that could garner interest far outside Redwood City.
I hope that while you consider the staff recommendation, that you will stick to your original decision to allow this
amazing project to keep moving forward in the Gatekeeper Process. Kenson Ventures has really gone the extra mile
to give Redwood City something it needs and wants. Something that is in the best interest of Redwood CIty and its
residents.
Thank you,
Kate
Kate Comfort Harr
Executive Director
(650) 348-6660 ext. 307
HIPhousing.org
®❑ ®❑ W X
