From:
To: GRP -City Council
Subject: CC meeting tonight—comments for Items 7A, 7b, 8a
Date: Monday, January 25, 20214:09:13 PM
CAUTION: This email originated from outside your organization. Exercise caution when
opening attachments or clicking links, especially from unknown senders.
Dear City Council Members,
I am writing in advance of tonight's city council meeting and wish to register my sentiments
about the above agenda items as follows:
Item 7A: While I applaud the City's attempt to get a Mental Health Crisis Response Team
together, many residents, including myself, would prefer that we have a separate team of
trained staff for this program. Secondly, because the program would still involve embedded
police participation, I'm concerned about escalation that would result in the sort of tragic
outcome we've already had.
Item 7B: Many RWC residents have advocated for a separate Equity Commission for our City.
This proposal appears to include two current members of the city council and no oversight
committee—lacking investigatory/subpoena/disciplinary power. A commission without teeth
is not worth the trouble.
Item 8A: My reservations about the Sequoia Station development plan rests largely on the
absence of any good plan for housing. We cannot expand office space without providing
commensurate housing and other infrastructure. As it is, too many of our residents are facing
homelessness and hunger as a result of the pandemic and rising living costs.
Thank you for your attention to these objections.
Sincerely,
Samantha Rajaram, District 6
