From:
Marcelene Luna
To:
GRP -City Council
Cc:
Council-Giselle Hale
Subject:
Council Meeting 1.25.2021 Agenda Item 7A
Date:
Monday, January 25, 2021 1:48:31 PM
CAUTION: This email originated from outside your organization. Exercise caution when opening attachments or
clicking links, especially from unknown senders.
7.A. Community Wellness and Mental Health Crisis Respond Team
This program that our Police Chief Mullholland put together assigning 1 Full Time mental health clinician is headed
to failed. With our population of over 80,000 and
knowing that the calls for help with mental health are increasing in our city.
In addition to responding to calls for service the clinician will also provide on-going training to the Redwood
City PD and the goals and objectives of the CWCRT
are unrealistic and are not supported to make the pilot program successful.
The police continues to be fully embedded in our community and they will do everything to maintained their power
over our black and brown
residents. After the listening sessions from the public about the mistrust of the Redwood City PD It's time to re -
imagine policing. This program
has all the traits of being performative just for the City to check off a box and say "we did something, we are not
racist".
If our City Council is truly being honest about helping our community with mental health implement policies that
don't start with the police and listen to community
in- put.
Thank you,
Marcelene Luna District 2
