Dear Mayor Howard and Members of the City Council:
Re: Transit District Study and Sequoia Station Session February 8, 2021
I am writing to you to encourage the Council to focus on life science space when
considering commercial development applications. I have worked in the medical device
industry for almost 35 years and a few of the companies have been located here in
Redwood City off of Seaport Blvd. As the Chief Operating Office of a medical company
now operating out of South San Francisco we did look for space in Redwood City.
There was little to no life science space (lab/office) near public transit centers. Many of
the employees that lived from San Jose to San Francisco could have travelled to
Redwood City due to its mid -peninsula location. Life science buildings that typical have
lab space, cleanrooms for device assembly and office space would certainly attract
many early and mid -stage medical device companies. Redwood City has an
opportunity to become the medical device hub of the Bay Area. We need office space
near transit but office space that is flexible enough to provide lab space, device
manufacturing, and clean rooms. Our industry also aligns well with Redwood City's
green building and energy efficiency goals. Redwood City has an opportunity to be a
sought-after location for this type of space, especially due to its proximity to Stanford
University and Sequoia Hospital. Of course, Sequoia Station would be the ideal
location since it is right at the Caltrain station.
have been a resident of Redwood City for over 25 years, and, yes, I would love to be
able to walk or ride a bike to get to work and then home.
Thank you for your consideration in this matter.
Sincerely,
Ronald J.
