I support the redeveloping of retail and surface parking at the site to create a
walkable, mixed use community. While this project is office -heavy, this is one of the
very best places in the region for concentrated offices where most workers will not
need to drive. In order to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, our region will need to
shift away from car -oriented office parks and toward transit -oriented, dense offices
adjacent to residential and retail. This location next to a major train station is the very
best place to add offices where most workers will not need to drive. That being said, I
want to emphasize that adding this amount of offices is significant and will require
serious measures to protect residents from displacement including bolstered tenant
protections, allowing denser housing, and incentivizing housing over additional office
space.
In summary, I urge you to advance this project and take additional steps to ensure the
city continues to add more homes at all income levels and protect renters to help
mitigate the negative effects housing unaffordability has on renters in the community.
Thank you,
Raayan Mohtashemi
