Exercise caution when
opening attachments or clicking links, especially from unknown senders.
Dear City Council,
I believe there is faulty logic being used to advance the proposed Sequoia Station project.
We are being asked to accept a flawed project with 1.25M sq ft of office space (almost equal to
the Salesforce Tower) for a few reasons:
The need to give up land to Caltrain for a four -track section for a project that may never
happen
Expiring retail leases
Zoning that permits 10-12 stories (but never revisited by the public)
Expensive underground parking
Affordable housing of up to 240 units
I challenge the City to conduct a survey by an independent third -party that simply asks Redwood
City residents if they support a project that includes 1.25M of office space (4-6k office workers) at
the maximum allowed height of 132 feet (10-12 stories) regardless of the benefits. I think we know
what the result would be. Instead, we have chosen to use a flawed survey with vague questions to
justify the project before you today.
Many of us believe we need to take a different tack. Let's begin with what we can agree on and
work our way backward. A large number of residents want to see a mixed-use project at Sequoia
Station with a balanced amount of office and housing square footage with buildings up to seven
stories tall.
We also want a retail center we can be proud of and the developer to provide some affordable
housing. These assumptions are bolstered by multiple VOCA surveys. We can quibble on minor
adjustments to these requirements, but let's start with these for now.
In support of this approach, listed below are 904 people (92% of whom are Redwood City
