I do not own a home but I am invested in my community and have a unique perspective as someone who has worked in education, running the career center at Redwood High School for 17 years and now in tech. since 2018. I am not anti -development but I do think that many of the approved projects that have been completed and are in the pipeline to be built weren't well planned out. I also believe that we could have required more from the developers who have made a pretty penny building, then selling their buildings. The current project at Sequoia Station is being approached with a very short sighted lens. Why are we not considering more retail space? We have lost all of our family -centric activities (bowling, golf, arcade, car racing, roller skating). Why are we not considering more activity centers? I have two children. We need more local things to do. The only thing anchoring me here is my extended family. Why should I stay in Redwood City? Is the goal to turn our town into a hotel town? Is there no desire by our council to have a hub that not only supports growth but is a place that families want to stay and raise multiple generations? My role at work is Operations Manager. I am in charge of planning our office spaces. We are downsizing our office, as are a multitude of other tech. companies. It makes zero sense to build more office space. As more and more companies realize they don't need people to come to work to be productive offices will continue to shrink. The fact that the council doesn't seem to realize this makes me wonder just where you get your information from that sways your decisions. I never write in nor speak at the meetings because I am enough of a pragmatist to know it's a done deal and that the council listens to complaints simply as a formality but I chose to write today to ask you to surprise us. Think of those of us who want to stay and hope our kids stay and raise their families here. I hope you do the right thing instead of approving another eye sore that we can't fill.
