Commercial $2.93 $3.37 $.44 <br />Hospitals $2.93 $3.37 $.44 <br />Restaurants $7.10 $8.17 $1.07 <br />Supermarkets $7.10 $8.17 $1.07 <br />Industrial $2.34 $2.69 $.35 <br /> <br />Note: Rates shown in the table above represent the additional monthly charge per <br />one hundred (100) cubic feet of waste of wastewater discharged or deposited into <br />the sewerage facilities in excess of one thousand (1000) cubic feet. <br /> <br />Increases to the current Sewer Fund budget for City-controlled costs are due primarily <br />to: <br />(1) Increases in personnel cost, which includes one new position and <br />associated vehicle approved by the Council Utilities Committee, <br />(2) Repayment the inter-fund borrowing from the water fund approved by City <br />Council in Fiscal Year 2007-08, <br />(3) Increase to allocation to the Capital Improvements Program (CIP) by <br />$200,000 for a program budget of $1.4 million. <br /> <br />The SBSA cost increase continues to be driven largely by the projected $340 million <br />major infrastructure replacement and repair projects over the next 10-year period. <br />Redwood City's share of these costs during the first five years of the program is <br />estimated to be $87.9 million. <br /> <br />In consideration of the proposed sewer rate increases, staff initiated the following public <br />notification activities: <br />(1) Mailed approximately 26,000 notices of the increase according to the <br />Proposition 218 notification process on March 10, 2008 to property owners, <br />(2) Explained the proposed sewer rate increase in the City's conservation <br />newsletter sent to customers in the utility billing; <br />(3) Posted all of the above information on the City's website. <br /> <br />To date 20 protest letters opposing the sewer service charge increase have been <br />received. All protest letters were responded to with a written acknowledgement of <br />receipt from the Public Works Services Department. <br /> <br />ALTERNATIVES <br />City Council could reject or revise Council Utilities Committee/staff recommendation. <br />
