<br />REPORT <br /> <br />6.1D <br />Page 1 <br /> <br />To the Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From the Cj Matta. er <br /> <br />April 28, 2008 <br /> <br />SUBJECT <br />Three-person study team to research and recommend the scope, duties, and <br />responsibilities of a Council-appointed Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory committee. <br /> <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />By motion, appoint Council Member Barbara Pierce, Billy James, and Susan Wheeler to <br />serve as a three-person study team to research and recommend the scope, duties, and <br />responsibilities of a Council-appointed Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee <br />("Advisory Committee"). <br /> <br />BACKGROUND <br />On April 14, 2008 staff provided an update to City Council on the Community Working <br />Group on Bicycle/Pedestrian Issues ('Working Group"), including recommended next <br />steps. A recommendation was included for City Council to appoint three people (one <br />each Council member, Working Group member, and staff member) to research and <br />recommend the scope, duties, responsibilities, and bylaws of an Advisory Committee. <br />City Council approved this recommendation with the modifications that the three-person <br />study team would not research or recommend bylaws, and that returning to Council <br />should occur within an eight-week period. <br /> <br />In the interim, the Working Group met, and selected Billy James as its representative to <br />the study team, and the staff member will be Susan Wheeler, the current staff liaison to <br />the Working Group.
