REPORT 5.1A Page 1 To the Honorable Mayor and City Council From the Ci Mana er June 9, 2008 SUBJECT Agreement between the City of Redwood City and Redwood City School District RECOMMENDATION Approve and authorize the City Manager to execute the agreement between the City of Redwood City, as fiscal agent for Redwood City 2020 (RC 2020), and Redwood City School District to support the Redwood City Community Schools for FY 2007-2008. BACKGROUND Redwood City 2020 has successfully raised funds in the amount of $266,875 to support services for the Redwood City School District at the four Community Schools. The Redwood City Community Schools are located at Fair Oaks, Taft, Hoover, and Kennedy schools. Redwood City 2020 fundraising efforts are focused on support for each site's staff positions which coordinate the social, health, youth development, and educational enrichment activities, and link them to the school day learning. These staff positions are called "Community School Coordinators," and they are employed by the Redwood City School District. Approval of this agreement between Redwood City and the Redwood City School District will enable RC 2020 to fulfill its grant objectives for these various funding sources, carry out the support functions as described, and take a leadership role in the ongoing coordination and grant compliance of these funds. ALTERNATIVES Council may choose not to enter into this agreement. Due to transition in RC2020 leadership, contract was not finalized earlier. FISCAL IMPACT Funding for the program has been granted by foundations to cover the cost of this agreement. No City funds will be used for this effort. The City is serving as the fiscal agent for RC 2020 for funds awarded; therefore this agreement will not impact City services.
