Consumers and business may be unaware of the existence of this <br />tax. <br /> <br />A "use tax" is a tax imposed by a state to compensate for the sales tax lost when an item is <br />purchased out of state, but is used within the state. <br /> <br />Each year, millions of dollars in state and local revenues owed by consumers and businesses in <br />the form of use taxes go uncollected. <br /> <br />Assembly Member Eng's legislation is of growing importance in an economy where people are <br />doing more and more of their shopping through the Internet.
