<br />REp.ORJ.......... <br /> <br /> <br />6.1A <br />Page 1 <br /> <br />June 30, 2008 <br /> <br />SUBJECT <br />2005-2006 Cost Shared Sidewalk Repair Project Amendment No.1, JJR Construction, <br />Inc. of San Mateo, CA. <br /> <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />Accept by motion the completed improvements construoted during the period of time <br />covered under Amendment No.1 to the 2005-2006 Cost Shared Sidewalk Repair <br />Project, from JJR Construction, Inc., San Mateo, CA and release the ten percent <br />retention in the amount of $51,156 withheld during this period's course of construction in <br />accordance with City procedure. <br /> <br />BACKGROUND <br />On June 5, 2006, the City awarded the 2005-2006 Cost Shared Sidewalk Repair <br />contract to JJR Construction Inc. of San Mateo, CA for their bid of $463,700. The <br />original agreement includes the option for two extensions using the Consumer Price <br />Index to adjust bid item amounts. Amendment NO.1 was entered into and made <br />effective June 8, 2007, for the amount of $463,700, the same amount as in the initial <br />agreement. On June- 9, 2008, Council approved Amendment No. 2 of the 2005-2006 <br />Cost Shared Sidewalk Repair Program in the amount of $476,883. All of the work <br />required during Amendment No. 1 has been performed to City standards. The work <br />performed exceeded the original contract amount by $47,860 or approximately 10%. <br />The additional work was performed at the direction of City staff in preparation of the <br />annual Roadway Management System Street Overlay Project which will occur in the <br />Centennial neighborhood. This is the first area to have all of the necessary tree <br />pruning, sidewalk, curb and gutter, driveway approaches, and street surface defects <br />repaired in advance of the annual street overlay project. Performing these repairs in this <br />order will leave the neighborhood with properly trimmed trees, sidewalks, curb, gutter, <br />and driveway approaches that are in great shape and when the street overlay project is <br />complete this fall, road surfaces and pavement markings that will last many years. <br /> <br />ALTERNATIVES . <br />City Council could decide to not accept this project. The work has been completed to <br />specifICations and the contractor has performed well in the completion of the project. <br />The contractor is due their retention amount. <br /> <br />FISCAL IMPACT <br />.
