<br />PPOI'OSED <br />JULY 1981 <br /> <br />MAINTENANCE ELECTRICIAN <br /> <br />DEFINITION <br /> <br />Performs a variety of co~plex and skilled work concerned with the <br />electrical operations, maintenance, alteration and repair of elec- <br />trical and traffic control systems, including but not limited to, <br />installation of new traffic signals; does related work as required. <br /> <br />DISTIN(;UISHIW; CHARACTERISTICS OF TIle CL.Z\SS <br /> <br />An employee in this class is responsible for the performance of <br />" <br />skilled level electrical work. The employee is subject to 24-hour <br />call for emergency work. Assignments are received orally and in <br />writing, either in the form of work orders or reports of unsatis- <br />factory opera tion 0 f equipmen t. The wo ]~k Play be CLl rr ied on inde- <br />pendently, but is reviewed by the engineerin0 staff. <br /> <br />EXAMPLES OF WORK (ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY) <br /> <br />Performs electrical ~aintenance for traffic signals and street lights, <br />both underground and aerial; installs new traffic signals; repairs <br />and updates old traffic signals; repairs, services and maintains <br />lighting, power heating, pumps, fire alar~s, communications; repairs, <br />installs and makes additions to existing installations of electrical <br />systems in City buildings; repairs and replaces defective parts in <br />switches and other fixtures and appliances; performs necessary con- <br />struction work relative to electrical ~aintenance, using jack ham~er, <br />backhoe, bucket truck, dump trucK, concrete saw; keeps time and work <br />records. <br /> <br />REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES <br /> <br />Good knowledge of the practices, methods, tools, materials and equlp- <br />ment used in electrical maintenance and repair; good knowledge of <br />electrical meters, motors, testing devices and manual and automatic <br />electronic control equipment; good knowledge of the occupational <br />hazards and safety precautions; good knowledge of the provisions of <br />local and national electrical codes applicable to installation, main- <br />tenance and repair work; ability to establish good workins relation- <br />ships with others; ability to read and interpret specifications, <br />sketches, diagrans and blueprints; ability to maintain records; ability <br />to locate and correct defects in electrical power lines and equipment; <br />physical condition sufficient to enqage in heavy physical exertion <br />outdoors in all types of weather and at considerable height above <br />the ground. <br /> <br />ACCEP'T'tdJLr: EXPERlfNCI\ AND TRAINIIJr; <br /> <br />Considerable full time e:<:perience in electricCll maintenClnce and repair <br />of electrical and electronic systems: completion of a stClndard hiSh <br />school course or e0uivalent, suprle~ented by courses in electricity <br />and electronics: or any equivalent combination o~ ~xperience and <br />training which provides the required knowledge, skills Clnd abilities. <br /> <br />"EXHIBIT A" <br />
