08/04/2008 Section 1. That, pursuant to the requirements of section 10403 of the Elections Code, the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo is hereby requested to consent and agree to the consolidation of a Special Municipal Election for the City of Redwood City with the Statewide General Election on Tuesday, November 4, 2008, for the purpose of submitting two proposed City Charter amendments. Section 2. That the two measures are to appear on the ballot as follows: "Shall a Charter Amendment requiring majority voter approval for future development of the Cargill Lands, consisting of approximately 1,450 acres east of Highway 101 and south of Seaport Boulevard, with exemptions for takings and vested rights, be adopted?" The full text of the proposed "City Council Measure" Charter amendment and accompanying map to be submitted to the voters are attached hereto as Exhibit "A-1 and A-2". "Shall a Charter Amendment requmng two-thirds voter ratification of legislative acts approving certain land uses in areas of the City designated as "Park': ''Unimproved Areas (Land or Water)", "Future Development Expanding Limits of Urbanization': "Controlled Waterways (Redwood Shores Area)", or "San Francisco Bay Water" in the General Plan or designated as 'Tidal Plain" or "Redwood Shores Bay Front" in the Zoning Code, with exemptions for housing obligations, takings and vested rights, be adopted?" The full text of the proposed "Two-Thirds Vote Approval" Charter Amendment and accompanying map to be submitted to the voters are attached hereto as Exhibit "B-1, B-2, and B-3." Section 3. That the County Elections Department is authorized to canvass the returns of the Special Municipal Election. The election shall be held in all respects as if there were only one election, and only one form of ballot shall be used. Section 4. That the Board of Supervisors is requested to issue instructions to the County Election Department to take any and all steps necessary for the holding of the consolidated election. Section 5. That the City of Redwood City recognizes that additional costs will be incurred by the County by reason of this consolidation and agrees to reimburse the County for any costs.
