<br /> <br />August 11, 2008 <br /> <br />SUBJECT <br />Digital parking meters - extension of one year standard warranty <br /> <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />Approve, by motion, the purchase of the proposed one year extended standard <br />warranty package offered by Digital Payment Technologies for 42 downtown digital <br />parking meters, and authorize the City Manager to approve and execute the extended <br />standard warranty package in future years, not to exceed $50,000.00 for anyone year. <br /> <br />BACKGROUND <br />The original warranty period specified in the Agreement to Provide Parking Pay Stations <br />executed on September 7, 2006, initially expired on February 28, 2008 and was <br />extended through June 30, 2008. Digital Payment Technologies offers to extend the <br />standard warranty, beginning July 1, 2008, for a period of one year. Staff recommends <br />that Council approve the warranty extension this year, and grant the City Manager <br />authority to extend the warranty in future years, not to exceed $50,000.00 in anyone <br />year. <br /> <br />Digital Payment Technologies' current standard warranty rate is $1,000.00 per meter <br />per year. Redwood City has 42 digital parking meters. The cost of the proposed one- <br />year warranty extension to start on July 1, 2008 is $31,391.35 and includes a 25% <br />discount, as well as a reduced rate for two meters purchased more recently. <br /> <br />ALTERNATIVES <br />. Council may choose to approve the extended standard warranty package for this <br />year only. <br />. Council may choose not to approve any renewal of the extended standard warranty <br />package. <br /> <br />FISCAL IMPACT <br />Sufficient funds for the proposed warranty extension are available in the budget for <br />FY2007/08 Parking District Fund, Parking Facility Operations which has a balance of <br />$519,643 as of June 30,2008. <br /> <br />~~~ <br />Susan Wheeler <br />Management Analyst <br /> <br /> <br />..- <br />S.
