<br />5.2A <br />Page 1 <br /> <br />REPORT <br /> <br />To the Honorable fttIayor and City Council <br />From the Ci. ,M~nil er <br /> <br />September 22, 2008 <br /> <br />SUBJECT <br />Final Acceptance - Redwood City Recycled Water Project - Phase I - Seaport <br />Distribution System - Bid Package 5 (Seaport Boulevard, Seaport Court, Chesapeake <br />Drive & Herkner Road) Project <br /> <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />Accept, by motion, Redwood City Recycled Water Project - Phase I - Seaport <br />Distribution System - Bid Package 5 (Seaport Boulevard, Seaport Court, Chesapeake <br />Drive & Herkner Road) Project, and authorize the release of bonds and the retention <br />according to city procedures. <br /> <br />BACKGROUND <br />On August 13, 2007, Council awarded the construction contract for the Redwood City <br />Recycled Water Project - Phase I - Seaport Distribution System - Bid Package 5 <br />Project to Shaw Pipeline, Inc. of San Francisco. The project was awarded for a base <br />bid of $2,104,800.00 and construction began September 12, 2007. The project is <br />successfully completed in accordance with the plans and specifications. Fifteen (15) <br />change orders totaling $34,389.00 were issued. The final contract amount is <br />$2,139,189.00, and 1.6% more than the contract amount initially awarded. Change <br />orders resulted from quantity adjustments, and additional work attributable to <br />incidental/unforeseeable site conditions. <br /> <br />This is the fifth pipeline project that extends the delivery of recycled water to new <br />commercial irrigation and city roadway landscape customers in the Seaport area. This <br />construction installed over 8,000 linear feet of main transmission piping along Seaport <br />Boulevard, Seaport Court, Chesapeake Drive and Herkner Road to form the Seaport <br />Distribution System. <br /> <br />ALTERNATIVES <br />Council may choose not to accept the project or authorize the release of bonds and <br />retention which would be contrary to the terms of the contract, prior Council action, and <br />public contracting code. <br /> <br />FISCAL IMPACT <br />Funds have been appropriated for this project from the Water Revenue Bond proceeds. <br />The city has issued a series of three Water Revenue Bonds to finance Phase 1 of the <br />Recycled Water Project. Available project funds, Jess unattributed interest, currently <br />total $4,037,598.00. <br />
