7A
Page 3
submitted a written request. There is no specified requirement that all (100%) of the
residents or property owners sign/support the request.

In consultation with the Ad Hoc Traffic Committee, staff concludes that it would be
possible to modify its past practice regarding community support for stop sign
installations should the Council decide that such action is appropriate. Council's
approval of the proposed stop signs on McGarvey will signal a change from the City's
past practice, because it will only require support from the majority of residences rather
than all of the residences at the intersection. This modification would allow more
flexibility in the process and would allow the City to consider more stop sign requests
from residents.

AL TERNA nVES
Council may direct staff to modify or suspend any of the following proposals for
additional study:
1. Installation of temporary traffic calming measures: Speed tables and a traffic circle.
2. Installation of permanent stop signs on McGarvey Avenue.

FISCAL IMPACT
The cost of the proposed temporary traffic calming devices and a permanent four-way
stop sign is approximately $50,000.00. Funds in the amount of $85,000 are available in
the Fiscal Year 2008/09 Capital Improvement Program, Gas Tax Construction Funds for
this, and other similar projects.

I2i2 V+r
Peter Delgado
Associate Engineer

eler Vorametsanti, P.E., Acting Manager
ngineering & Construction

Peter Ingram
City Manager

ATTACHMENTS
1.
