<br />REPORT <br /> <br /> <br />6.28 <br />Page 1 <br /> <br />October 27, 2008 <br /> <br />SUBJECT <br />Final Acceptance - SandpiperlMarlin Park Synthetic Turf Field Installation Project <br /> <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />Accept, by motion, the SandpiperlMarlin Park Synthetic Turf Field Installation Project, <br />and authorize the release of bonds and the retention according to city procedures. <br /> <br />BACKGROUND <br />On July 23, 2007, Council awarded the construction contract for the Sandpiper/Marlin <br />Park Synthetic Turf Reid Installation Project to Granite Rock Company DBA Pavex <br />Construction Division of San Jose. The project was awarded for a base bid of <br />$1,641,785.00 plus $50,000.00 for inclusion of a bid alternate resulting in a total <br />contract amount of $1,691,785.00. Construction began in August, 2007. The project is <br />successfully completed in accordance with the plans and specifications. Six (6) change <br />orders totaling $106,637.99 were issued. The final contract amount is $1,798,412.99. <br />and 6.3% more than the contract amount initially awarded. Change orders resulted <br />from quantity adjustments, and additional work attributable to incidentaUunforeseeable <br />site conditions. <br /> <br />This project implemented water conservation measures recommended by the <br />Community Task Force on Recycled Water on March 3, 2004. Natural turf was <br />replaced with synthetic turf on two Redwood Shores sportfields which reduces the <br />demand on the potable water supply. Project improvements also included the <br />construction of fencing and pathways, and installation of landscaping. <br /> <br />ALTERNATIVES <br />Council may choose not to accept the project or authorize the release of bonds and <br />retention which would be contrary to the terms of the contract, prior Council action, and <br />public contracting code. <br /> <br />FISCAL IMPACT <br />The appropriations that fund the contract for this project have been previously approved <br />by Council. The improvements directly associated with water conservation efforts are <br />funded by the Water Bond Projects FundlRecycled Water System Development.
