Through the new "Code Enforcement Volunteer

program. volunteer residents will work together with the City to help beautify and improve neighborhoods

and business areas, all for the common purpose of protecting and improving the quality of life in Redwood

City.

The City is seeking the help of interested and committed community members who will assist Code

Enforcement staff by simply taking a look at various areas of the City and reporting possible code

violations. Visual assessments of neighborhoods and business areas can occur either during the week or

on weekends, and the hours are at the volunteers' convenience.

Volunteers will not be surveying their own neighborhoods, and no interior inspections will be required.

All of the visual surveys will be conducted from the public right-of-way. Volunteers will be reporting possible

violations to the City's Code Enforcement staff for their follow up, and no contact with property or business

owners will be made. Volunteers may also assist in administrative matters and record keeping, in order to

free-up our Code Enforcement Officers to focus on enforcement in the field.

Among the code enforcement violations that participants in the Volunteer Program will look for are:

. Inoperative vehicles parked on lawns, driveways. or streets
. Commercial or oversized vehicles parked in residential neighborhoods
. Excessive accumulation of trash in areas visible to the public
. Auto repair and other un-permitted business activities in residential neighborhoods
. Weeds and overgrown vegetation, which are both health and fire hazards
. Possible illegal living units or garage conversions
. Illegal signs

Each volunteer wiU receive a short training session in how to perform a visual survey and how to
identify possible code violations. Any community member interested in this very helpful volunteer
opportunity is encouraged to contact Jerry Schnel', Redwood City Senior Building Inspector.
