<br />5. SPECIAL ORDERS: <br /> <br />A. Proclamations: Mayor Foust, joined by Police Chief Louis Cobarruviaz, <br />recognized the accomplishments of two supporters of the <br />Redwood City Police Activities League (PAL), Alpio Barbara <br />and Paula Uccelli. <br />Both those recognized thanked the volunteers who help make things happen and <br />thanked the Council and Police Department for their continued dedication to this cause. <br /> <br />Steve Zweig, Peninsula Pop Warner Conference 2007 Adult <br />Hall of Fame inductee for Male Volunteer of the Year, Pacific <br />Northwest Region was also recognized by the Mayor. <br />Mr. Zweig thanked Council and spoke about community volunteers. He also spoke in <br />memory of the first Male Volunteer Award recipient, Frank Guida, and the continued efforts <br />to have the 49 Field named after him. <br /> <br />One Council Member commented that having two national award recipients in one <br />community in the same year was remarkable and reiterated the special nature of the <br />community's volunteer base. The Mayor stated that there is a Council subcommittee and <br />the Pop Warner Field renaming might be revisited. <br /> <br />6. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS AND CONSENT CALENDAR CITY <br />COUNCIL/COMMUNITY FACILITIES DISTRICT BOARD <br /> <br />Tippy Irwin, Director of the Ombudsman Program, thanked the Council for its support and <br />cited the number of people aided by his program. The Council's continued support in <br />helping this organization meet its financial goals is greatly appreciated. <br /> <br />M/S Aguirre/Pierce to approve the Consent Calendar as submitted. <br /> <br />Vice Mayor Howard asked for clarification Parks and Recreation item with regard to the <br />revision to the appropriations (item 6.2 b). Corinne Centeno, Director of Parks and <br />Recreation stated this was for fund revisions in 2007-08 relating to the shortfalls of <br />anticipated parental fees for the after school program where numbers were adjusted for a <br />zero-sum game. She also stated the school programs were otherwise not affected, which <br />was another of Vice Mayor Howard's concerns. Vice Mayor commended Parks and <br />Recreation on their successful recruitment efforts for volunteer middle school coaching <br />staff. Council added there was a minor change in the minutes from the prior meeting in that <br />the Bay Area Water Forum should actually be listed as the Bay Area Water Conservation <br />Agency. <br /> <br />Motion carries unanimously by roll call vote. <br /> <br />SPECIAL JOINT CITY COUNCIU <br />COMMUNITY FACILITIES DISTRICT BOARD MEETING MINUTES <br /> <br />JUNE 16. 2008 <br />PAGE 2 <br />
