His second handout included <br /> the recent planning and investments in Redwood City. <br /> Public Comment <br /> Nancy Radcliffe, founder of the "No New Jails" group, opined that the County had met its <br /> civic duty and had enough jail space as is. She urged the community to go online to <br /> www.noiails.com in order to email the County Supervisors with its opinion. <br /> Council requested additional communication with the Counry to support the conclusion and <br /> noted somewhat of a disconnect between the City and County on this issue, although they <br /> have a good track record in other collaborative efforts. Council consensus was to continue <br /> the efforts to meet future goals in housing and the location of the jail facility. One Council <br /> Member suggested a task force to analyze and review the potential sites and goal <br /> compatibility. Mayor Foust made comments about the need for continued communication <br /> beiween the County and City was important. She has requested that the County remove its <br /> plans to purchase property. Vice Mayor Howard agreed with promoting efforts to have a <br /> better dialogue between the City and the County. <br /> C. Council Reports on Committee Meetings Attended. <br /> 1. Council Member Aguirre reported on a speaker from the County who spoke to <br /> the Education Committee of the Chamber and brought a copy of his report on <br /> the diversity statistics of the schools in San Mateo County. She announced the <br /> Redwood City Pride photo contest. She listed Council Member Pierce as a new <br /> Redwood City Education Committee member. She spoke about the Immigrant <br /> Study at the San Mateo County History museum and gave updates on the <br /> Downtown Committee activities, and the commencement and recruitment for the <br /> Chamber Leadership Committee. She reported and thanked the Mayor for the <br /> City's reception of the Colima delegation. <br /> 2. Council Member Hartnett spoke on the Advanced Life Support Joint Powers <br /> Authority and this organizations' leadership change of late and the Caltrans <br /> budgetprocess. <br /> 3. Council Member Pierce spoke on the issue of transportation and the Association <br /> of Bay Area Government and the Metropolitan Transit Commission and <br /> improvement goals for the area's transit. She also spoke on the Bay Area <br /> Water Forum and the current drought. She provided an overview of the Hoover <br /> School's after school art program and the answers provided as to what the ideal <br /> Redwood City would look like.
