He stated there are upcoming meetings prior to the final steps to be considered. <br />He encouraged neighboring counties to join in the discussion since this issue crosses <br />jurisdictional lines. <br /> <br />2. San Mateo County Jail Site. <br /> <br />Public Comment <br />Nancy Radcliffe, from the "No Additional Jails Coalition", stated that the Board of the Chamber <br />of Commerce agreed with her position regarding no further jails being needed in Redwood <br />City, although they are in support of rebuilding the women's facility as long as it does not <br />increase in bed size. She hoped the Board of Supervisors would consider all counties on an <br />equal basis in their search for a new location. <br /> <br />Mayor Foust asked for Council support on scheduling a meeting with Board President Adrian <br />Tessier and Vice Mayor Howard and the City Manager to look at options. There was Council <br />consensus for such meeting to be scheduled and that the Mayor send a second letter. Council <br />agreed, and repeated it does not object to rebuilding the women's facility within already <br />specified parameters. The Mayor stated it would be helpful to involve County Supervisors in <br />the dialogue and Council suggested a town hall type meeting as well as having Council look <br />into the sherrifs' needs. <br /> <br />D. Council Reports on Committee Meetings Attended. <br /> <br />1. Council Member Bain spoke on his activities with the bike and pedestrian committee and <br />recent meetings he has attended. <br /> <br />2. Council Member Ira spoke about the South Bayside System Authority Treatment Plant <br />(SBSA) and concerns with its inclusion in the proposed charter amendment initiative. <br /> <br />3. Vice Mayor Howard spoke about the Pride and Beautification Committee's latest <br />activities, including its upcoming participation in the Coastal Cleanup Day. She stated the <br />committee also had members out the day prior to the July 4th celebrations to set out recycling <br />and trash receptacles. She also mentioned Acterra Committee and its continued ongoing <br />efforts to remove the derelict vessels from the bay waters near the Redwood City port. <br /> <br />4. Mayor Foust spoke about the need to get the word out regarding fireworks bans prior to <br />the 4th of July celebrations. The Mayor pointed out a recent publication done by the <br />Childcare Coordinator, Kristen Anderson, called "Building Childcare into New <br />Developments," and how the booklet was funded through grants The Mayor stated she is <br />Chair of the San Mateo County Transportation Authority and that the Transit Authority (T A) <br />and Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC) would be meeting to vet the strategic plan for the <br />City/County Association of Government (C/CAG), the Technical Advisory Committee and the <br />City Managers Association on Measure A funds. <br /> <br />JULY 7,2008 <br />PAGE 10 <br /> <br />JOINT CITY COUNCIUREDEVELOPMENT AGENCY BOARD <br />MEETING MINUTES <br />
