STAFF REPORTS
A. Staff Draft of Counter Measures to Proposed Initiative Measure Amending the
Charter of Redwood City — San Francisco Bay Front and City Park Land.
No Action Required.
Mayor Foust welcomed public comment on the matter.
Nancy Arbuckle, Sequoia Audubon Society, spoke to volunteering her time to get the Open
Space Initiative on the ballot for November and opined staff's countermeasure is not a true
alternative. In her opinion, it does not adequately address certain issues. She requested
the Council withdraw its measure and place the Initiative on the ballot for a vote.
Gita Dev (with time ceded by Doris Dahlgren) spoke as a member of the Sustainable Land
Use Committee and the Sierra Club and their support of growth and the provision of
housing development. On the Council's countermeasure, she stated the Open Space Vote
more truly supports a sustainable model in growth and housing development issues in
providing protection for the bay lands and open spaces. She stressed a focus on
developing the downtown areas versus the open space areas and other sensitive lands.
JOINT SPECIAL CITY COUNCIUREDEVELOPMENT AGENCY BOARD JULY 21, 2008
MEETING MINUTES PAGE 6
MINUTE BOOK NO. 62
Page No. 161
