A KABOOM representative
approached Parks, Recreation and Community Services (PReS) staff in early December to
determine our interest in becoming a Community Partner. Staff first reviewed the
responsibilities of Community Partners, which include: a $7,500 cash match, securing up to two
hundred volunteers for build day; having legal control over the site and the ability to stage the
build day. Feeling confident that we could meet all of the above requirements, we moved on to
consideration of sites for the proposed build. Ultimately, we recommend a "buildn at Mezes
Park, based on the demographics of the neighborhood, the support of the Centennial
Neighborhood Association and the age of the existing play equipment. The Department has a
longstanding commitment to involvement of the local neighborhood in our park renovations and
the KABOOM partnership will simply take that commitment to the next level.

ALTERNATIVES
City Council could direct staff not to proceed with the project.

FISCAL IMPACT

The $7,500 cash match as well as any site preparation work estimated to be under $2,500 is
available in the Capital Improvement Program Playground Replacement fund. Up to an
additional $1,000 for incidental expenses such as refreshments may be needed if our
Community Partner is unable to secure donations and will be absorbed in the existing Parks,
Recreation and Community Services Department budget.

~ (2:?__

orinne Centeno
Parks, Recreation & Community
Services Director

Pe~lngmm ~ ~

City Manager

ATTACHMENTS
1.
