<br />5. SPECIAL ORDERS OF THE DAY <br /> <br />A. Proclamation: National Blood Donor Month - American Red Cross Account <br />Manager Mona Helmhold - Sarah O'Brien was the representative <br />present and encouraged everyone to donate blood. Vice Mayor <br />Howard announced that Deanna La Croix (City Manager <br />Department) wonderful job getting city employees to donate <br />blood. <br />(Item C taken first- out of sequence) <br /> <br />C. Acknowledgement of Community Shuttle Naming Contest Winners - Vice Mayor <br />Howard and Christine Maley-Grubl, Executive Director, Peninsula Traffic <br />Congestion Relief Alliance. Vice Mayor Howard thanked the over 100 suggestions <br />submitted. The winner was Ian Bain, Council Member. She also gave prizes to <br />others who participated. Vice Mayor Howard thanked the Peninsula Traffic <br />Congestion Relief Alliance and the senior representative present Kim Comstock. <br /> <br />D. Presentation: Certificate of Recognition to Dave Karow, Show Your Pride, <br />Redwood City - 2008 Contest - Mr. Karow was present and thanked the Council <br />for the recognition. He presented each Council Member with a signed copy of the <br />book. <br /> <br />B. Proclamation: Honoring The Garrick Family and Their Friends from Atherton and <br />Woodside for the 'Trees of Joy' Event. Mayor Foust recognized the Garrick's and <br />thanked them for their dedication to making this event possible. Mr. Garrick <br />explained the genesis of this tradition. Mayor Foust thanked Teri Chin, Human <br />Services Manager, for making this happen. <br /> <br />6. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS AND CONSENT CALENDAR <br /> <br />Greg Greenway, with Industrial Seaport Association, said that the Chamber of Commerce <br />in Redwood City is looking at Prop 1A and High Speed Rail which passed in November of <br />2008. He commented on Consent Calendar item 6.1.C. and the need for affordable <br />housing. <br /> <br />Susanne Springs, with time donated by Sandra Peltz, opined that regarding 885 <br />Woodside Road the letter to neighbors was not sent in a timely manner and neighbors <br />were not aware of this action. She did not think there was adequate notice. Ms. Springs <br />posed questions relating to the use and process. She believes the original Council action <br />is different than what is being suggested. She asked that these not be rental units and for <br />clarification on the meaning of "more favorable market conditions". <br /> <br />Gerard Zelnik said he agreed with the sentiments from the previous speaker. He opined <br />that what originally was proposed is what should remain.
