<br />8. MATTERS OF COUNCIL INTEREST <br /> <br />A. Legislation (information only) - This sub-section involves possible discussion of <br />City Position on Proposed Legislation described in the League of California Cities <br />Priority Focus Bulletin No. 41-2008. Council may direct staff to act on positions <br />taken by Council. (Copies of League of California Cities Priority Focus available <br />in City Clerk's Department). <br /> <br />Council Member Aguirre announced the upcoming Latino Film Festival. Council Member <br />Pierce announced that Mayor Foust spoke at the Peninsula Structures meeting through <br />the San Francisco Business Times event and she highlighted the less visible benefits of <br />businesses such donating to non-profits and supporting community initiatives. <br /> <br />Mayor Foust made a statement that the community had just gone through a challenging <br />period and the Council is committed to working together with diverse groups and interests <br />in crafting a future that brings people together. Mayor Foust believes that out of adversity <br />one can build strength. Mayor Foust thanked staff for its tireless work, the Council and the <br />people's involvement in the issues. Mayor Foust opined that the General Plan process will <br />be a conduit to accomplish much as a community. <br /> <br />9. ADJOURNMENT - Mayor Foust announced that Dr. Jeff Filippi's mother Mary just <br />passed away but this is too recent and so more to come at the next meeting. <br />M/S Howard/Hartnett to adjourn in memory of George Victor Leipzig Jr. who was married <br />to Ms. Mary Leipzig who was the first woman Mayor of Redwood City.
