<br />5. SPECIAL ORDERS OF THE DAY <br /> <br />A. Congresswoman Eshoo's Hispanic Heritage Month recognition of the Fair Oaks <br />Community Center - Teri Chin, Director of the Fair Oaks Community <br />Center/Human Services Manager. <br /> <br />Ms. Chin invited other representatives from other agencies to the podium. They were: <br />Vicky Avila, Community Program Specialist, EI Concilio of San Mateo County, Tish <br />Hedrick, Director, Redwood City Child Development Center, Barbara Liedtke, South <br />County Coordinator, HIP Housing/Homesharing Program, Zena Vigileos, Site Coordinator, <br />Family Service Agency/Fair Oaks Intergenerational Senior Center, and Anthony Moss, <br />ESL/Citizenship Professor, International Institute of the Bay Area. Ms. Chin thanked the <br />Council for its support of the Fair Oaks Community Center for over 30 years. Mayor Foust <br />in return thanked Teri Chin and the community for its work, especially during these tough <br />times. <br /> <br />B. Presentation of Green Business Certifications - Malcolm Smith, Public <br />Communications Manager. <br /> <br />Two businesses and City Hall were Green and Mayor Foust acknowledged the two <br />businesses present. They were the Crosby Group and Provident Group. The Mayor also <br />acknowledged the Green Fair that took place last week at City Hall. <br /> <br />C. City Manager Department Presentation on Environmental Initiatives and <br />Neighborhood Liaison Program - Magda Gonzalez, Deputy City Manager, Beth <br />Ross, Environmental Initiatives Manager, and Erica Spacher, Neighborhood <br />Liaison Coordinator. <br /> <br />Magda Gonzalez, Deputy City Manager presented the report and explained the various <br />initiatives that the City Manager's Department is engaged in. She explained how the <br />initiative blends with the Council initiatives. Beth Ross, Environmental Initiatives Manager, <br />highlighted the number of partners that the City is working with in all its environmental <br />initiatives. She expressed her pride in having sustainability as a value in this organization. <br />Ms. Ross provided details on the Youth Outdoors (YO) program and how it allows youth of <br />more challenged socio-economic levels make a difference and learn what environmental <br />stewardship is about. <br /> <br />Erica Spacher, Neighborhood Liaison Coordinator, spoke about the City Hall Green Team <br />and its goal. She spoke about the Neighborhood Liaison Program. Ms. Spacher provided <br />a list of all the items that have been accomplished within the last three months. She <br />spoke about National Neighborhood Day in September and how it was a successful event. <br />Ms. Spacher explained that currently there are plans to celebrate National Night Out in <br />August 2009. <br /> <br />Ms. Gonzalez acknowledged the donations of the Packard Foundation. She thanked all <br />the members of the City Manager's Department for working so well together. <br /> <br />Council Member Bain asked about the work from ICLEI.
