5. SPECIAL ORDERS OF THE DAY <br /> A. Proclamation: Recognition of the Garrick's their Family and Friends (postponed <br /> to January 26, 2008) <br /> B. Presentation: Downtown Business Group Holiday Tree Decorating Winners — <br /> Nancy Radcliffe, President of the Redwood City Downtown Business Group and Mr. <br /> Kadera said this was the 2" annual tree decorating contest. He added they had 20 <br /> entries and three hundred votes were cast. Mr. Kadera acknowledged all the winners <br /> and explained the categories. <br /> Mayor Foust recognized Keith and Nina Kadera for their dedication to the event and <br /> presented them with a certificate of recognition. Mayor Foust also announced that Mr. <br /> and Mrs. Kadera will be the recipients of the Business Award as part of the Sequoia <br /> awards. <br /> C. Presentation: Library Department Presentation — Dave Genesy, Library Director <br /> Dave Genesy presented an overview of iniatives the Library is engaged in <br /> (presentation on file). He acknowledged donations from the Library Foundation in the <br /> amount of $850,000. He announced that Sandra Cooperman will receive the Library <br /> Volunteer award. <br /> Mayor Foust thanked Mr. Genesy for the great libraries and programs he runs. <br /> 6. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS AND CONSENT CALENDAR <br /> Teri Chin, Human Services Manager, shared invitations to upcoming events 1) Martin <br /> Luther King Jr. Celebration and the 2) One day Homeless Count. She provided details on <br /> the events and Council Member Pierce reiterated that all are invited to participate. <br /> Sofia Asaro spoke about her property at Johnson Street and how street cleaning over <br /> parked cars can be challenging. She opined that street cleaners do not clean her street <br /> and this can be a challenge because it makes streets unappealing. <br /> Mayor Foust said that the City Manager will follow-up on this. Mayor Foust asked that the <br /> pictures be dropped by for review (on file). <br /> John Bruno, Cargill Saltworks, submitted a letter for Council consideration (on file). It <br /> suggested phasing the General Plan process and referred to the possibility of the <br /> submittal of an application by spring of 2009. He asked Council for clarity on the process <br /> since an application will come in the next few months. <br /> Mayor Foust said that the letter needs to be reviewed carefully and possibly the <br /> stakeholders might need to be pulled in. Mr. Yamamoto commented that the letter should <br /> be looked at and then the City Manager can elaborate a response. Mayor Foust stated <br /> that the Planning Commission will need some direction and the Council will need to <br /> provide such direction.
