<br />REPORT <br /> <br />8A <br />Page 1 <br /> <br /> <br />April 13, 2009 <br /> <br />SUBJECT <br />Second Status Update from Pilot Community Tree Board <br /> <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />Approve by motion directing the Public Works Services staff to: launch a tree education <br />program; obtain delegated authority to issue citations enforcing tree preservation <br />ordinances; consider requiring fees for issuance of pruning and removal permits and <br />review existing fine schedule; strengthen the city's policies that protect trees during <br />construction and development projects. <br /> <br />BACKGROUND <br />The five members of the Pilot Community Tree Board were appointed by the City <br />Councif in October, 2007 and were assigned the task of further developing the 25 <br />recommendations of the original Tree Task Force. The Community Tree Board has met <br />many times over the past 15 months and ;s supported by staff of the Public Works <br />Services Department. The Initial Key Tree Board Recommendations are: Launch an <br />education program to encourage preservation and expansion of Redwood City's,:urban <br />forest; allow Public Works Services staff to issue citations enforcing tree preservation <br />ordinances; consider permit fees and review existing fine schedule; strengthen.the <br />City's policies that protect trees during construction and development projects.
