IE -1 <br />,:+.M +;M..a -... .. . ,. ..�t, r'...;Y.+'cg✓,el'i' !fi « *.t :- .'::t�'� <br />To the Honorabie Mayor and City Council <br />From the City Manager <br />January 6, 2003 <br />Subject <br />Award of Contract — 2002 -2003 Carpet Replacement Project <br />Engineering File No. 806 -08 <br />Recommendation <br />Approve the Contract Documents and award the contract for the 2002 -2003 Carpet <br />Replacement Project to the lowest responsible bidder, Spectra Contract Flooring of <br />Burlingame, California, for their low bid of $164,470.00, and reject all other bids. <br />Background <br />This year's Carpet Replacement Program will be used to replace the existing carpeting <br />at Fire Station #9, and the Police Facility. <br />➢ After 14 years of wear and tear, the carpeting in Fire Station #9 is in need of <br />replacement throughout the entire facility. <br />After 10 years of constant use, wear and tear, the carpeting in the Police Facility <br />also is in need of the carpet replacement. <br />Three (3) bids for the above - referenced project were opened in the Office of the City <br />Engineer (public counter — Maps & Records area) December 18, 2002, and are <br />summarized below. <br />Rank Contractor Amount (Base <br />Bid) <br />1. Spectra Contract Floorinq — Burlingame, CA $164,470.00 <br />2. Welker Bros. — Milpitas, CA $170,600.00 <br />3. Dupont Commercial Floorinq Systems — So. San Francisco, CA 1 $176,252.00 <br />The Engineer's Estimate for Base Bid is $161,000 <br />The low bid of $164,470.00 was 2 % above the Engineer's Estimate of $161,000. After <br />reviewing the bids and the Engineer's Estimate for the cost of replacing the carpeting, <br />the bid is considered a fair and responsive bid. <br />A complete copy of the agreement is available for review in the City Clerk's Office. <br />
