<br />WHEREAS, the State Department of Finance has proposed the diversion <br /> <br />of motor vehicle revenues, now used exclusive~ for the maintenance, recon- <br /> <br />struction and construction of highways, to the p~ent of interest and <br /> <br />redemption on outstanding highw~ bonds; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, it is estimated that such diversion would deplete state <br /> <br />highway revenues in the sum of $8,800,000.00 for the next biennium and the <br /> <br />aggregate sum of $92,000,000.00 during the life of said highw~ bonds; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Senate Constitutional Amendment No. 22, which will appear <br /> <br />on the November ballot, seeks to divert the State's share of the franchise <br /> <br />taxes collected from busses and trucks to the general fund, which would deplete <br /> <br />the highway fund in the amount of approximately $960,000.00 during the next <br /> <br />biennium; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, a law was enacted at the last Legislature authorizing the <br /> <br />state Highway Commdssion to expend state highwav funds within the corporate <br /> <br />limits of the cities of the state; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, reductions in state highw~ moneys through diversion to <br /> <br />the general fund would grea.tly curtail or possibly eliminate this state aid <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the cities of the State of California as a whole have not <br /> <br />received proper benefits from the highway funds of the state; now, therefore, be <br /> <br />it <br /> <br />RESOLVED: That the City of Redwood City, through its City Council, <br />hereby expresses itself as opposed to the expenditure of highway funds for any <br />purpose other than the acquisition, construction and maintenance of roads, <br />streets and highw~s. <br />I hereby certify that the foregoing resolution was duly and regularly <br />passed and adopted by the Council of the City of Redwood City at a regular <br />meeting thereof held on the 5th ~ of July, 1932, by the following vote: <br />Ayes and in favor of the passage of the foregoing resolution, <br />Councilmen: H.
