I ," ': May 18, 2009 SUBJECT Final Acceptance - Veterans Boulevard Storm Drain Pump Station Electrical Upgrade Project RECOMMENDATION Accept, by motion, the Veterans Boulevard Storm Drain Pump Station Electrical Upgrade Project and authorize the release of bonds and the retention according to city procedures. BACKGROUND On July 21, 2008, Council awarded the construction contract for the Veterans Boulevard Storm Drain Pump Station Electrical Upgrade Project to Pleasanton Engineering Contractors, Inc. The project was awarded for a base bid of $349,563.00. Construction began in October, 2008. The project is successfully completed in accordance with the plans and specifications. One (1) change order crediting $96,076.00 to the city was issued. The final contract amount is $253,487.00 which is 37.9% less than the contract amount initially awarded. Change order activity resutted largely from the deletion of a generator and the addition of a motor control center to the scope of work. It was determined that the acquisition of the generator would be more appropriate at a future time. The deletion of this item generated a credit of $102,567.00. The motor control center which was originally believed to be salvageable, had to be replaced. The minimal cost for this additional item, $6,491.00, resulted from value engineering efforts. The work of this project included construction of a concrete masonry unit building and the replacement, relocation, and reconnection of electrical and other equipment necessary to the operation of a pump station. This project improved the reliability and the safety of the facility . ALTERNAnVES Council may choose not to accept the project or not to authorize the release of bonds and retention which would be contrary to the terms of the contract, prior Council action, and public contracting code. FISCAL IMPACT Funding for this construction agreement has been previously approved by Council and appropriated from Fiscal Year 2007-2008 Capital Projects Fund, Veterans Avenue Pump Station Rehabilitation and funds from Storm Drai ollection System Construdion. ~~~~~4!~- ~ ~ M.
